What exactly is Manumatic? Features and technical parameters of the gearbox

Manumatic is a type of transmission that offers automatic and manual modes of operation. By default, the gear selection is made by the electronic control unit and not controlled by the driver. However, if necessary, the driver can manually select the gears, for example to accelerate quickly or save fuel. Manual control is generally done by placing the shifter in a special slot, but sometimes also by buttons or levers on the steering wheel.

Functional principle

Typically, a Manumatic- is based on a conventional automatic transmission with a hydraulic torque converter. However, automated manual transmissions and continuously variable transmissions are also frequently seen.

The manual control mode can be made possible by a special firmware of the control unit. When the driver selects a specific gear, the appropriate signal is sent to the electronic control unit, which in turn engages the selected gear.
